Mediterranean Iconic Shores Ocean Cruise

Day 14: Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - Corfu, Greece

The day's statistics:
-  Weather: low 60s
-  Steps: Linda: 8,809; Steve: 14,695

Our morning routine was typical, though this morning from the World Café I got a shot of the sun just a little after sunrise near the horizon.

This morning's excursion "Panoramic Corfu & Old Town Walking Tour" began at 8:30, so after breakfast we did our usual routine and headed out.
While collecting our things in the cabin, I noticed our ship was docked across the pier from a gargantuan Norweigan Cruise Line (NCL) ship. That thing is so big it had a eleven story slide attached to the side of it.

I'm OK if that's your thing - but it isn't our thing.
After boarding the bus, our group headed out. The route we took had us pass across the inlet on the side of the Viking Vesta, with the NCL ship behind it.

Had the two ships been the other way around, I don't think we would have even been able to see the Viking ship.
Just to empahsize the point, I drastically discolored the Viking ship to better contrast it against the NCL ship, keeping in mind that the NCL ship was a little further away and it STILL dwarfs the Vesta.

Today's guide was Fay, and our driver was George.
Our bus ride continued as we made our way through town and past some ruins on the way to an overlook.

The overlook was at the Halikiopoulou Lagoon.
There was a hotel, a cafe, and some shops that overlooked the lagoon - that also had an airport along side one edge.

To the left of the bridgeway (in the last image above, looking at it from this vantage point) is technically the Straits of Corfu which lead directly to the sea. And in the foreground is Holy Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna.

I took a video pan of the landscape - or would this be a "waterscape"?

Before departing the area, we took a selfie.

Everyone in the group boarded the bus, and we continued on, this time I saw what was on the other side of the bus.

The bus stopped at Old Port Square, a plaza in town near the water, and we began our foot tour making our way through the town while seeing a number of sights like the Fortification, cafés, stores, and architecture.

We wound through the town eventually arriving at the Platia Enoseos.
The cafés - with residences above - along the left (from this perspective) used to be old war barracks for the French.

We were told that on Easter Saturday, at 11:00 AM, residents throw ceramic pots out the windows to signify "out with the old, in with the new". It is quite the event.
At the far end of the plaza is the Corfu Museum of Asian Art.

After the visit at the plaza, we continued on.

Our route eventually took us inside (we think) the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon.
As there was a service going on, we quietly entered the back of the church, passed across to the other side, and exited, staying in the church for a minute or two at most.

We're not exactly sure what or who is in this coffin, or if it is even a coffin. I didn't even notice it until I was reviewing the pictures.

At the top of the stairs just outside the church, Fay pointed out how to get back to Old Port Square, where the bus dropped us off, and told us all to be there at 11:35 as that was when our tour bus was going to take us back to the ship. There was also a shuttle bus running every fifteen minutes or so too, until 4:00, so if we wanted to stay in town, we could do that too.
We started our stroll back, visiting a shop or two, and seeing a few more sights.

We were back at the plaza with about 20 minutes before our bus left.

We decided to take the shuttle back to the bus rather than wait for our guide and our tour bus.
The bus dropped us off at the security check-point, and we still had a little bit of a walk to get back onboard. When we passed by the ship, we noticed that they were either using the tenders for a particular excursion, or they were making sure they were all okay for future use.

When we boarded, we stopped by the Living Room bar and got a coffee from Patrick.

After our coffee, we made our way to our cabin, shed our excursion things, freshened up a bit, and then headed to lunch.
Linda had her usual sandwich and salad, while I started with a rather eclectic plate of foods that included sliced beef roast, penne with clams, and seafood salad. I probably had another small plate of items, as well as a couple desserts - give Linda a small little fruit tart too.

Before heading to the Explorer's Lounge for relaxing and more card playing, I saw this lovely view from our veranda.

After dropping the cards off in the cabin, we went and walked a couple laps.
We paused to take a selfie too.

We returned to our cabin to drop off the cards and get ready for dinner.
It turns out that NCL ship finally left.
Look - some nice scenery!

A little time later and before we went out to dinner, the sunset while the ship left port.

Before we went to dinner, per our text conversation with John, we stopped by Manfredi's to let them know we could give up our reservation for two as we were going to be participating in a group dinner. It was, shall we say, a little bit of a challenge to try to convey what was happening, and the staff didn't full understand what we were trying to say. So rarther than mess anything up, we just said "Never mind, we'll see you tomorrow."
We were back to having dinner in The Restaurant, and sitting at our usual table 53, sitting next to Marta and Dan from Massachusetts.
We viewed the menu.

Linda had the Greek Seafood Salad (not pictured), Grilled Sablefish, and Mango Lime Syllabub.

I had the Seafood Miso Soup (not pictured), Lamb Kabob, and Baklava.

After dinner, we took our wine to the atrium to enjoy a couple song performed by the ladies.

Then it was time to head back to the Explorer's Lounge for more trivia. But this time it was Musical Trivia, and our emcee was the Cruise Director Michael.
Once again there were 15 songs, but there was also bonus points available. The points were in the form of, for example, the "Eye of the Tiger" was the song (you had to know that), and the bonus point was for answering "What movie was that from - not the franchise, but the exact movie?"
We didn't win again, but we were third (there was a tie for first).

After the trivia, we returned to the cabin, relaxed a bit, then washed up, and went to sleep.
